Planning in POP Culture
PLAN 670 - Class Number: 13812

Description:
An exploratory educational adventure of the issues we face in our built environment through the cultural media of prose, poetry, song, and film. This two week course will take an entertaining, thematic glimpse of subjects such as suburban sprawl, inner city urban blight, environmental degradation, gentrification. Each day we will engage popular culture through listening to music, watching movies, reading short stories and engaging in discussion of the questions that emerge through them. Students are encouraged to nominate songs, suggest movies and stories and talk about their own experiences to enrich and diversify the discussion. The objective of this course is to encourage students to think creatively about how our natural, social and built environment affects us as individuals and as a society.
